Dermal Fillers FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are soft material that is injected below the upper layer of the skin to give the area under the skin volume and plumpness. As we age, we loose up to 80% of the collagen end elastin (and other elements) in our skin and tissue, and as a result the skin naturally loose volume and life. However, this collagen and elastin can be replaced with dermal fillers. When a dermal fillers is injected into the skin, it either replaces this lost collagen and elastin, or simply provides additional volume to an area. Different dermal fillers are made of different material, but often these fillers are made of materials that occurs naturally in the body.

How do dermal filler treatments work?

Dermal fillers are injected into skin to boost the volume of a local area. The purpose of a dermal filler injection is often to replace lost collagen and elastin and thereby expand the local area. This will push up and stretch the skin above that local area so that the wrinkle, depression, or fold is reduced or removed. Dermal fillers have proved to be effective at reducing and removing wrinkles, and at creating a smoother and firmer skin.
